Japanese Small Katydid

  • The black body and thick green stripes on the back are cool. They are called "Hime-gisu" because it looks like a katydid and has a small body. In Japanese, "Hime" means small and "gisu" means katydid. The Himegisu in the photos are larva, as adults, they grow wings and their bodies become thicker.
    They like moist environments and are often found near ponds.
