Emergence of Cicadas
In Japan, you can observe cicadas emerging on summer nights. After spending several years in the soil, the larva grows into an adult and searches for a partner.
Once the larvae come out from the soil, they climb a nearby tree and begin to emerge. Their back cracks open and they slowly pulls themself out of it. It takes over an hour for the body to emerge, and several more hours to dry. However, their newly hatched white bodies are very beautiful and a mysterious sight. Therefore, it has the same value as watching a movie.
The success rate of emergence is said to be about 40%, and many larvae die of exhaustion during the process.
