Hiding behind fallen leaves and waiting for spring

kitateha
  • Kitateha | Butterfly | Polygonia c-aureum
  • Kitateha is a member of the Brush-footed butterfly family and is often seen in our dairy lives. They occur several times from spring to autumn, and the individuals that become adults in the autumn overwinter as they are, staying still at the base of trees to use as little energy as possible during the winter. For this reason, the autumn-type adults look like fallen leaves when they close their wings to make it harder for predators to detect them. The jagged shape of the wings looks just like fallen leaves.
