We can see them in all seasons in Japan.
The Spot-billed Duck is the only duck that can be seen in all seasons in Japan. Though other ducks come to Japan to overwinter and leave north in the spring, the Spot-billed Duck breeds in Japan. You have probably seen the young Spot-billed Ducks walking in a line after their mother.
Although they are naturally wary birds, many Spot-billed Ducks have crossbred with ducks, and it is said that most of the Spot-billed Ducks seen in urban areas are crossbred with ducks. As a result, they have become accustomed to humans and do not run away when approached.
Many species of ducks look similar, but the Spot-billed Duck is easily distinguished by the yellow tip of its beak.
